Project objectives The purpose of the German-Austrian-Swiss research on solar roads is not merely to generate solar energy. We also want to demonstrate that a construction of this type is viable and can be maintained continuously under real traffic conditions and in terms of costs. In addition, it seeks to establish the foundation for: Evaluate the potential and limitations of this application . Identify, address and minimize as much as possible any existing barriers to innovation at an early stage.
This experimental project on the A81 was conceived by: The Phone Number List partners Fraunhofer ISE (Freiburg). Forster FF. The Austrian Institute of Technology (both from Austria). This consortium was selected to carry out the project by the transport ministries of the three neighboring countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In other words, it is a collaborative research on transport infrastructure that will bring many benefits.

According to its promoters, it seeks to promote the implementation of photovoltaic systems in the highway network . It aspires to achieve climate neutrality in the maintenance and operation of highways by the year 2040. Dr. Markus Oeser, President of the Federal Highway Research Institute revealed that the performance of the prototype will be scientifically monitored for one year. This will ensure that key goals are supported with the most optimal technical solutions available.
